Kuah, which means 'gravy' in Malay, was created by some giants fighting during a wedding party and spilling a wok full of curry on this piece of land. So goes the legend of this town, which is a modern commercial center and shopping zone of Langkawi. There are no beaches in Kuah, but plenty of hotels to stay in if you want to be close to where the shopping is. The closest beaches are found in Pantai Cenang, which is about 20 minutes away by car. If you stay in the Westin Langkawi, they have their own small, but private beach area which overlooks the ferries coming in to the jetty from Kuala Kedah. |
