Langkawi

Pulau Langkawi offers activities that the whole family can enjoy on holiday in this beautiful tropical tourist destination. Water sports such as riding jet skis, para sailing, canoeing and boat rides are available from resorts along the main beach areas. Visitors can try out their hands at eagle feeding or horse riding while others may appreciate a game of golf on the undulating courses of the island. As the seas off Langkawi are calm and breezy, sailing has become a popular activity along with yachting. When you're in Langkawi, your holiday will definitely be an exciting and fun-filled one!
Golf

Langkawi has several world class golf courses on the island. The first of these is the 18-hole, 72-par beachfront course in the Langkawi Golf Club, located near Kuah. Datai Bay Golf Club is another 18-hole public course nestled among lush trees and green landscapes. The golf course faces the Andaman Sea, providing serene views. Finally, there's the Gunung Raya Golf Resort with a beautiful field located at the base of the mountain.

Langkawi is a popular destination for sailing and yachting, with a few international marinas to choose from around the island. The Royal Langkawi Yacht Club is located in Kuah with 200 berths and pontoons equipped with electricity, fuel, water and wireless internet. The Pantai Kok Marina in Telaga Harbour is another dock with 50 berths while the Rebak Marina on Rebak Island offers a similar set of services for yachts and cruise ships.

Eagle Feeding
Eagle feeding in Sungai Kilim
Eagle feeding is another popular activity for the family to enjoy on holiday in Langkawi. There are various places to see the eagles feeding on fish, including the mangroves of Sungai Kilim, the waters off the smaller islands such as Dayang Bunting and where ever the birds congregate. Taking a yacht cruise or mangrove tour from any of the Langkawi tour operators will include this activity in the itinerary.

To attract the birds, chicken entrails and meat are thrown into the water. In a short moment, dozens of white-bellied sea eagles and Brahimy kites will arrive and swoop down to collect the pieces. The majestic sight provides a fascinating experience for visitors and tourists, though there are some that claim otherwise.
Horse Riding
Horse Riding in Langkawi
Horse-riding is a relatively new activity on Langkawi Island. The place for visitors and tourists to try out their skills on horse riding is the Mutiara Burau Bay Equestrian Centre, which opened in 2004. The horse riding caters for all age groups, including children and seasoned riders. Families can ride on horses or ponies together, promising a fun outing.

The trails for horse riding pass through lush rainforest and run up a scenic mountain peak, which is Gunung Raya. Beginners can learn horse riding here as well, while seasoned riders will appreciate practising here. Most of the horses in the stable are rescued from race tracks or retired from the industry, giving them a new life when they normally would be shot.
